Shots fired during break-in on Mallard Drive

Monday night, around 10:55 p.m., Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office responded to 138 Mallard Dr. regarding a suspicious person call.
The Sheriff's office released a statement on the incident Tuesday afternoon.
According to official reports, the homeowner went outside after noticing lights on in an adjacent house under renovation. The homeowner was aware that lights shouldn’t be on and suspected a breaking and entering. After stepping outside he saw a male wearing a yellow sweatshirt carrying something near his building. The homeowner confronted the male subject.

Upon confronting the male, the male suspect shot at the homeowner. The homeowner was not shot and called 911. A neighbor heard the gunshots and came out to check on the commotion. The neighbor also encountered a male subject. The neighbor shot at the male after it appeared to him that the male was preparing to shoot at him.
The male suspect ran away after being shot at by the neighbor and fled in an Audi.

The statement read, "Currently, we don’t have confirmation that anyone was injured. The matter is still under investigation and a search for the occupants of the Audi continues."
