In the wake of N.C. House Rep. Cecil Brockman's arrest, many North Carolina lawmakers have called for his resignation, including those here at home.
Brockman, 41, who has served as the representative for the 60 North Carolina House district since 2015, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with of two counts of statutory rape of a child between the ages of 13 and 15 and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Early Thursday morning, House Speaker Destin Hall, (R), and Minority Leader Robert Reives, (D), both called for Brockman’s resignation.
“As we continue to learn more about the allegations against Rep. Brockman this morning, it has become clear that he is unable to continue serving in the House of Representatives. Rep. Brockman must resign immediately.” Reives said in a social media post.

Here, closer to home, 110 District N.C. House Rep. Kelly Hastings took to social media after a fundraising event Thursday evening, and also responded to The Shelby Independent, firmly stating,“I've been busy today with official duties, and I am just now verifying the arrest of a legislator in North Carolina. I do not know him, and I do not remember officially meeting him. If these allegations are true, he must resign immediately!"

The Shelby Independent also reached out to Dr. Caroline Eason, a candidate for the 110 House, who will face-off against Hastings in the March 2026 primaries, added, "The legislature should always set the highest example for ethical conduct, and there should be no room for doubt when it comes to integrity in office."

The NC House Democrats website says about Brockman, "A native of High Point, he earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Throughout his tenure, Rep. Brockman has been committed to strengthening the state's economy and enhancing its educational system."
His biography on the NC House Democrat page continues, by stating in part, "Throughout his tenure, he has been a voice for progress, standing up for issues such as affordable healthcare, criminal justice reform, and LGBTQ+ rights, ensuring that North Carolina remains a place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect."
Brockman's information / biography page was still active on the nchousedems.com website as of Thursday night without any updates or changes.
