Kings Mountain: Working together to help our hometown grow

Recently, while filming in my hometown of Kings Mountain, I was told it was not a good idea for me to fly my drone in a certain area. As a licensed and responsible drone operator who follows FAA safety guidelines, I could not help but wonder why. The area was safe, open, and completely legal to fly in as long as I was not flying directly over people.
That moment made me stop and think about something bigger than just a flight. Why are some of our local businesses and leaders so quick to say no, instead of asking how we can work together? Should we not be focused on lifting each other up, collaborating, and using the tools we have like drone technology to help all of our local businesses grow and thrive.
Drones can showcase our towns in ways traditional marketing never could. From capturing the beauty of Main Street to highlighting new developments and community events, aerial footage can tell a story that draws people in and supports local growth. When used properly, it is not just about cool footage, it is about promoting our town and the people who make it special.
What is interesting is that just thirty minutes up the mountain, other communities welcome my work. They encourage drone flights, they see the value, and they want to use it to help small businesses gain visibility and attract more people to their area. That kind of support makes a big difference.
Kings Mountain has so much potential. But potential only becomes progress when we work together, not against one another. My hope is that we see more collaboration, more how we can help, and fewer roadblocks for the people trying to make our community shine.
Let us be the kind of town that encourages innovation, supports small business, and embraces new ways to grow from the ground up and even from above.
