CLEVELAND COUNTY — Welcome to 'SI's Week in Review' where we sum up a few of the week's headlines that were covered in The Shelby Independent (on the website and social media).
On-time delivery of the mail by the U.S. Postal Service in North Carolina was among the worst in the nation in the second quarter, a report from the agency’s dashboard says. North Carolina was No. 44, with on-time service percentage of 78.2%. That’s well below the target of 87% and the national norm of 84.1%.
The Cleveland County GOP held a Christian-based “Make a difference - Vote” seminar at The LeGrand Center with special guest speakers who tied the importance of faith to picking good candidates. You can read that story this coming week, only in The Shelby Independent.

Several accidents plagued Cleveland County again this week. The Shelby Independent reported on one particular accident, for traffic reasons only on social media, which was a non-serious collision at the S Morgan and DeKalb Extension on Thursday evening.
The Wednesday oped was written this week by guest writer Rod Powell, chairman of the Cleveland County Democratic Party. The oped concerned the high prices of buying a home and home buyers having to compete against corporations and hedge funds buying up properties to use as rentals.
It was an all-Cleveland County football weekend again, Friday, as Shelby and Crest squared off on Friday night in a hard-fought victory for Crest at home in overtime, with a 27-24 win for the Chargers. Burns traveled to Kings Mountain for their own execution where the Mountaineers massacred the Bulldogs 32-7 Friday night. The Shelby Independent posts halftime and final scores on SI's Facebook page. Catch those every Friday night during the season.
