Candidate filing ends July 18

All across Cleveland County, seats are up for election, and people are filing their candidacy in hopes of being elected.
Anyone considering running for elected office must file before this Friday at Noon, according to The Cleveland County Board of Elections Director, Clifton Philbeck.
“Candidate filing for the Nov. 4, 2025 municipal election ends on Friday, July 18 at noon,” Philbeck said. “We need more people to run for local office while there’s still time.”
The positions up for elections are as follows:
· Three Belwood Town Commissioner seats.
· Boiling Springs Mayor, and two Boiling Springs Council Member seats.
Last month, on June 28, in a public post, Boiling Springs Mayor Daniel Thomas announced on his Facebook page that he would not seek reelection as mayor.
Part of Thomas’ statement read, “I do not intend to seek reelection. Though the past 10 years have been one of the greatest honors and privileges of my almost five decades, I’m going to step back now, and put my focus on my kids.”
(continued below)
Thomas ended his statement by promising what he has continued to do, by staying focused on the job as mayor in the months that remain of his term, and “Work to support and encourage the leadership going forward.”
Current Boiling Springs Town Council Member Tommy Greene announced via Facebook, that he was going to seek the office of mayor. Green complimented Thomas in the post, stating, “I would be remiss if I did not say that Daniel Thomas, our current mayor has left some big shoes to fill…”
Other elected offices on the voting block this November also include:
· Casar Mayor and three Casar Town Commissioner positions.
· Mayor of Earl, and four seats on the Earl Council.
· Fallston Mayor and two Fallston Council Member seats.
· Three Grover Town Commissioner offices.
· Kings Mountain Council Member seats for Ward # 2, Ward # 3, and an at-large seat is up for election.
· Mayor of Kingstown and three Kingstown Council Member seats.
· Lattimore Mayor’s office, along with three Lattimore Alderman positions.
· Mayor of Lawndale and two town commissioner spots.
· Two Mooresboro Council Member seats.
· Three Patterson Springs Commissioner spots.
· Two Polkville Town Commissioner seats.
· Three Shelby Council Member seats, from Ward # 1, Ward # 4 and Ward # 5.
· One Waco Alderman office.
· Three Water District Board Member seats.
There’s still plenty of room for anyone wanting to file before the upcoming deadline this Friday, noted Philbeck.
“Municipal elections often suffer from low voter engagement,” said Philbeck. “But stepping up to run for local office gives people a direct, meaningful way to shape their community.”
If you want to shape your community, make sure you file BEFORE NOON on Friday, July 18, 2025. And if you are a last-minute filer, no need to worry; The Cleveland County Board of Elections office will open at 8 a.m. that Friday morning.
The regular municipal and water board elections will be on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with voting stations open from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 pm. However, if more than one candidate files for the same elected office, a primary will be required, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Voters must also present a valid photo identification when voting in person. If you do not have a photo ID card, you can obtain one from your county board of elections prior to the election.
