Stolen SUV details come to light, passenger previously wanted in W.V.

New details have emerged in the wake of a stolen car that resulted in a fatality in the early morning hours of Saturday.
At approximately 2:39 in the morning, on July 19, the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a stolen Chevy Tahoe vehicle crossing the North Carolina state line on Hwy 18.
Sheriff’s Deputies located the stolen vehicle near Davis Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.
In a press statement, release by the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, is stated deputies got behind the vehicle in attempted to stop the vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle immediately fled and a pursuit was initiated for felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The statement relayed what happened next, explaining, “The pursuit lasted approximately 5 miles and ended at the South Carolina Line on Dravo Road. Deputies continued on Dravo and observed the vehicle fail to reduce speed to make the turn on Dravo at South Carolina State Road 11-98. The vehicle ran head first into a ditch deploying the air bags.”
The driver, identified as Garry Tyrone Martin of Gaffney, fled the vehicle on foot, heading south on Dravo Road. Martin was later apprehended by The York County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound team.
Deputies stopped at the scene of the crash, where one female front passenger, later identified as Aaliyah Shyann Sisk, 22, died from the result of the accident.
A second passenger in the back seat, Marvin Alex Woody, 20, was found to have Methamphetamine in his possession.


Woody was recently wanted in McDowell County, West Virginia for failure to appear. However, when The Shelby independent contacted The McDowell County (W.V.) Sherriff’s Office, but they could not provide any details on his failure to appear charge, stating their system was down at the moment. He is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail, in South Carolina.

Martin, the driver who fled from law enforcement, was treated for his injuries sustained in the crash and now faces several charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony elude, careless and reckless driving, and several traffic related offenses.
The press release concluded noting South Carolina Highway Patrol will pursue additional charges related to the accident.
