Shirley Maydean Hutchins Bright, born in Rutherford County, North Carolina, on April 28, 1939, peacefully departed this life on February 14, 2026, at White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC. She was a remarkable woman whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met.
Shirley lived a life full of love, devotion, and the simple joys of nature. Her passion for gardening blossomed into a cherished hobby, filling her home with the vibrant colors of flowers and the soothing sounds of the outdoors. She found true happiness in caring for her pets and nurturing her garden, reflecting her nurturing spirit and love for all living things. Shirley's love for her family and friends was boundless, and she held dear the moments spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Throughout her life, Shirley was a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church, where she found solace and community until her health prevented her from attending. Her faith was a guiding light, providing her with strength and comfort during both the joyous and challenging times.
Shirley leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her granddaughters, Ashley Philbeck and husband Gary of Shelby, NC, and Amanda McCurry and husband Eli of Rutherfordton, NC. The legacy of her love continues through her eight great-grandchildren: Easton Philbeck, Landon Philbeck, Reagan Philbeck, Grayson Philbeck, Garrett Philbeck, Lily'onna Philbeck, Baby Rowan Philbeck, and Emily McCurry, who brought immense joy to her life.
She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Byers, Lucille Miller, and Key Robinson, as well as her sister-in-law, Joan Hutchins. The loving bonds of sisterhood provided Shirley with companionship and support throughout her journey.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Roy Bright Jr., who was her partner in life and love. She was also preceded by their daughter, Linda Lynn Greene, and great-granddaughter, McKenna Philbeck, whose presence in her life was marked by deep affection and pride. Shirley was the cherished daughter of Burrley and Elizabeth Hutchins, whose love laid the foundation for the remarkable woman she became.
