Billy Carroll Lemons, a cherished member of the Boiling Springs community, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Born on September 21, 1943, in Shelby, North Carolina, Billy lived a full and devoted life, marked by his unwavering commitment to family, faith, and fellowship.
Billy was a faithful member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where he generously shared his musical talents by playing the organ. His love for music and the church was a defining element of his life, bringing comfort and joy to many. Those close to him also remember his keen mind and enthusiasm for working crossword puzzles and word finds, pastimes that showcased his thoughtful nature.
He is survived by Sarah Blanton Lemons, his devoted wife of 61 years, with whom he shared a loving partnership that stood as a testament to their enduring bond. Family was at the core of Billy's world. He greatly loved spending time with his family and friends, especially cherishing moments with his two grandchildren, Sarah Bjerg and Joseph Bjerg.
Billy’s warm spirit and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
His daughter, Michele Bjerg, along with her husband Joe of Concord, North Carolina, survive him, continuing his legacy of love and family commitment. Billy was preceded in death by his father, Bemus Lemons; his mother, Mozelle Wilson Lemons; his brother, Jerry Lemons; and his sister, Angelia Lemons. Their memory remains a significant part of the life story he leaves behind.
Billy was known as "Mr. Lemons" to the 5th graders he taught at Bethware Elementary School for more than 30 years. He also served as the organist for 48 years at Boiling Springs Baptist Church and 3 years at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
A visitation was held on Tuesday May 26, 2026, at 12 pm at Boiling Springs Baptist Church, located at 307 S Main St, Shelby, NC 28152. This was followed immediately by the funeral service at 1pm at the same location, where family, friends, and community members gathered and honored Billy’s remarkable life. The burial followed at Cleveland Memorial Park.
Billy Carroll Lemons’ legacy is one of steadfast faith, deep family devotion, and heartfelt community involvement. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
