A knife assault on Seattle Street has left one woman dead and a suspect behind bars.
In a statement released by the Shelby Police Department, it states, that Saturday morning, Nov. 15, at approximately 6:00 a.m., the Shelby Police Department responded to a report of an assault in the 400 block of Seattle Street. Upon arrival, officers located a female lying in the roadway in front of 401 Seattle Street, suffering from apparent knife-inflicted injuries.
"Officers from the Shelby Police Department, along with Emergency Medical Personnel from Cleveland County EMS and Shelby Fire and Rescue, attempted lifesaving measures on the victim," the statement continues. "The female victim was transported to Atrium-Cleveland, where she was pronounced deceased."
According to reports, the suspect in the incident was still on the scene when officers arrived and was taken into custody.
Maurice Sakhnini, 41, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder, First Degree Kidnapping, First Degree Burglary and Resisting a Public Officer.

Reports indicated Sakhnini is currently being held without bond at the Cleveland County Detention Center.
The victim’s name has not been released at this time pending official family notification.
