Correction note: This news story has been updated. The Shelby Independent previously reported one of the vehicles was a Pontiac, as told. This has been updated to an Oldsmobile.

A three car accident on College Road, on the bridge near Skinner Road, ended in tragedy with one fatality Wednesday during commuter morning traffic.

A Mazda pulled out of Skinner onto College making a left turn.

Another vehicle, an Oldsmobile, was traveling at an excessive rate of speed, struck the back of the Mazda and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting an F-150 head-on.

The deceased was driving the Oldsmobile. The driver of the F-150 was okay.

An off duty police officer and a probation officer were both in the traffic at the time of the accident and responded to help. Shanghai VFD and EMS arrived to find an unconscious male not breathing. The jaws of life were used to access the unresponsive driver who had passed away.
