A truly golden age all but forgotten

OPINION / HUMOR — A trip to Walmart on a Sunday afternoon reminded me of when I was a child riding in the backseat of my dad's old school brown 1980’s Cadillac, as we weaved around the parking lot of the Western Steer, like a car chase scene from an old James Bond movie, while he aggressively drove towards a parking space to beat the 3 other vehicles vying for the coveted parking space.

It was a time of serious competition as the Baptist, Methodist & Presbyterians tried to beat one another to the old steak house.

The winners soaked in the victory — not by standing on a soap box — but by already being seated, enjoying their salad, as those in last place had to do the walk of shame through the dining hall as they watched the victors already beginning to eat their meal.

It was a different time then.

A truly golden age when fathers only cursed in front of their children on Sunday afternoons, mothers would cover children's ears and the sweet taste of beating other church congregations to the Western Steer was better than any top sirloin.

It was a time long ago...

Now it's just chaos all the time and curse words have truly lost their meaning.

I miss those days.  I'm thankful I was a child when I was.

I hope you all had a nice weekend, and have a great week.
