Woman struck, killed by train in Kings Mountain

Staff Reports | Kings Mountain Police Department





Kings Mountain, NC – Early in the morning of Sunday, July 5, Kings Mountain Police Department officers, along with Kings Mountain Fire Department and Cleveland County EMS, responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a Norfolk Southern train approximately one-half mile south of the W. Gold Street Crossing in Kings Mountain.


According to the train’s engineer, a woman was on the tracks and did not acknowledge warning signals prior to being struck. The engineer reported that attempts were made to stop the train; however, the train was unable to stop before the collision occurred. The female involved has been identified, but her name is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Norfolk Southern Police responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation alongside the Kings Mountain Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit. Norfolk Southern has advised that the tracks have been reopened at this time.


This incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
