CCC celebrates health sciences and nursing graduates

Shelby, N.C. — Cleveland Community College celebrated the accomplishments of Health Sciences and Nursing graduates during two pinning ceremonies held May 11-12 on the CCC campus.
A total of 114 students were honored during the ceremonies as they completed programs designed to prepare them for careers in healthcare.
The Health Sciences Pinning Ceremony, held Monday, May 11, recognized 55 graduates from the college’s Phlebotomy, Medical Assisting, Radiography, and Surgical Technology programs. Faculty members presented awards recognizing leadership, academic excellence,
clinical achievement, and outstanding performance.
Leadership Award – Tonia Littlejohn (Phlebotomy)
Outstanding Student Award – Aliza Edmonson (Medical Assisting)
Clinical Excellence Awards — Madison Corum and Greg Olsen (Radiography)
Academic Awards — Lauren Black and Lindsey Wilson (Radiography)
Outstanding Student Award — Brianna Bohandy (Radiography)
Clinical Award – September Perry (Surgical Technology)
Academic Award – Paige Sutherland (Surgical Technology)
Outstanding Graduate Award – Emily Lewis (Surgical Technology)
On Tuesday, May 12, Cleveland Community College honored 59 graduates during the Associate Degree Nursing Pinning Ceremony. Among the graduates are 13 who have already passed the National Council Licensure Examination to officially become RN’s.

Betty Garrison Award — Sade’ Poteat
Academic Excellence Award — Mallory McMahan-Cook
The nursing ceremony also featured six members of the North Carolina Nurse Honor Guard,
who participated in the ceremony and explained the historic symbols and traditions of the
nursing profession.
Pinning ceremonies are longstanding traditions in healthcare education and symbolize the
completion of academic training and the beginning of professional service in the healthcare
field.
“Cleveland Community College is proud to celebrate the hard work and dedication of these
graduates,” said Dr. Jason Hurst, CCC president. “These students have demonstrated
compassion, perseverance, and excellence as they prepare to serve patients and
communities throughout our region.”
Family members, friends, faculty, and staff attended both ceremonies to celebrate the
graduates’ achievements and their commitment to healthcare professions.
