Dr. Shelly Shope, CEO of Pinnacle Classical Academy in Shelby, has been appointed to her second four-year term on the North Carolina Charter Schools Review Board.

The appointment, made at the recommendation of House Speaker Destin Hall, was included in a bill approved by the North Carolina General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Josh Stein.

"We are so proud of Dr. Shope's work at Pinnacle Classical Academy," said Debbie Clary, board chair of Pinnacle Classical Academy. "Our lawmakers have recognized that Dr. Shope is one of the premier charter school leaders in the state."

Dr. Shope is one of 11 voting members of the 12 member charter schools review board.

Under state law, the board works to ensure the existence of high-quality charter schools in North Carolina by approving or denying charter applications, renewals, and revocations. The board also makes recommendations to the State Board of Education on the adoption of rules regarding all aspects of charter school operation.

Dr. Shope was also recently reelected by fellow charter school leaders to the board of directors of the North Carolina Coalition for Charter Schools. Her fellow board members, in turn, reelected her to the position of board vice chair.
