Murder in Lawndale, suspect arrested

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at approximately 4:26 p.m., deputies with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a firearm being discharged in the area of 211 Boyles Rd. in Lawndale.

Upon arrival, deputies located an individual lying unresponsive in the front yard of the residence with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the upper chest. Deputies immediately began lifesaving measures while awaiting the arrival of EMS. Despite the efforts of deputies and EMS personnel, the victim was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased.

Following the initial response, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office deputies quickly began working to identify the individual responsible for the shooting. During the course of their investigation, deputies received information indicating that the suspect was at a residence on Newfield Court in Lawndale.

Deputies acted quickly and continued their investigative efforts at the Newfield Court residence. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the residence, resulting in the discovery of evidence believed to be related to the crime. 𝟭𝟴-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿-𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼 was located at the residence and taken into custody. Castillo was subsequently charged with 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 and received no bond.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by the deputies who responded to this incident and immediately began working to identify and locate the person responsible. Their prompt response, investigative efforts, and determination played a significant role in bringing this investigation to this stage and ensuring that an arrest was made.
