CRIME – A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder following an apparent assault that left a woman dead at a residence on Gibson Road in Shelby Friday night, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office.

Jordan Oneil Hosch, 33, was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center shortly after midnight Saturday, according to county jail records. He is charged with murder and is being held without bond.

Deputies responded to 106 Gibson Road on Friday, Nov. 6, to assist the fire department after a fire alarm was reported at the residence, according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office at 10:22 p.m.

Upon arrival, deputies located an active fire in the kitchen area and a woman inside the residence. The fire was contained and the residence was secured.

The woman was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during what investigators described as an apparent assault, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

(Update) The victim has been identified as Bernice Hosch.

No additional official details about the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death or the events leading to the fire were immediately available. However, anonymous sources, who were not authorized to speak openly on the matter, claimed the victim's head was allegedly detached from her body.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office at 704-484-4822 or submit a tip through the agency’s website or mobile app.

The investigation remains ongoing.
