Law enforcement responds to ongoing situation at local hotel

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC – On the morning of Saturday, August 9, 2025, at approximately 8:05 a.m., officers responded to the Holiday Inn Express in Kings Mountain, NC, to conduct a well-being check related to a missing person report filed on Friday, August 8, 2025, out of South Carolina.


Upon arrival, the individual was located in a room at the hotel and was found to be in possession of a firearm. For safety, officers immediately retreated and initiated the evacuation of surrounding areas within the hotel.


The Kings Mountain Police Department and the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office are currently on scene. Negotiations with the individual are actively underway. As a precautionary measure,

Woodlake Parkway has been closed on both sides of the hotel.


We ask the public to avoid the area and allow law enforcement to work without interference.
