The Town of Lattimore held a special meeting Thursday at 2 p.m. to discuss the matter of hiring a new town clerk.

For anyone that has ever called town hall, you probably spoke to current town clerk LaSandra Pearson, who will be stepping down in December.

In her shoes, the position will be filled by Randi Powell. who was not there for comment.

“Jackson (Martin) and I met with Powell the other day and we’re pretty impressed,” said Lattimore Mayor Alton Beal during the special meeting.

It was stated while they didn't wish to see Pearson go, the Lattimore Board of Alderman were happy to know things would be in good hands with Powell.

Alderman, and Mayor Pro-Tem Jackson Martin, added, “We’re very lucky to have found her. She checks lots of boxes we’re looking for and she loves Lattimore. We lucked up and this is the right thing for our town.”

In a unanimous vote, Powell was hired by the Lattimore Town Aldermen.

According to information provided by Lattimore, Powell also works as the treasure for No. 7 Fire Department's board.

"She comes to us with experience," added mayor Beal.

Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Martin.
