A Kings Mountain officer was taken into custody on Sunday, following an alleged domestic incident at his residence.


According to a statement released by the City of Kings Mountain, Edward Ray Padgett, 37, was arrested and charged with 'Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injuries.' He was initially transported to Cleveland County for questioning and has since been transferred to the Lincoln County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

The State Bureau of investigation was requested to conduct a separate investigation into the matter.


According to the press release, it stated, “Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and to maintain the integrity of the process, no further details will be released at this time.”


The statement also said the City of Kings Mountain, and the Kings Mountain Police Department, are fully cooperating with the SBI and remain committed to transparency and accountability in all matters.


A representative for the City of Kings Mountain could not be reached for additional comment as of Monday afternoon by the Shelby Independent.


On Tuesday, Kings Mountain sent out an updated press release which stated, “He is currently listed as ‘suspended without pay,’ as the investigation continues.”


No additional information was available as of 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
