Driver charged with misdemeanor vehicular death

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The pedestrian hit by a car last week in Boiling Springs has died from his injuries and the driver of the vehicle has been charged.
In a new statement released by the Boiling Springs Police Department, they provided an update on the investigation.
“A vehicle, operated by 47-year-old female Quantina Leach of Shelby, was traveling North and turning onto East College Ave while 71-year-old male Dragan Stankovic of Gaffney South Carolina was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle. Leach remained on scene. Stankovic was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.”
Leach was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle.
On Feb 17, at approximately 3:31 p.m., Boiling Springs PD responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at E College Avenue at S Main Street on Feb. 17 at approximately 3:31pm.
“Our thoughts go out to everyone involved in this incident,” the statement continued.
Boiling Springs Police Chief Brian DiYorio expressed his sympathies in the statement and offered a warning about driver and pedestrian safety.

“This is a heartbreaking incident for everyone involved and for our entire community. On behalf of the Boiling Springs Police Department, I want to express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” DiYorio said. “Moments like this remind us just how fragile life is and how quickly circumstances can change.”
“As a community, we must continue to look out for one another on our roadways,” DiYorio continued. “Whether we are driving or walking, patience, attentiveness, and caution are critical every single day. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and even the smallest decision can have lasting consequences.
We ask that everyone keep those impacted in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
