Cleveland County Emergency Management and County leadership are closely monitoring the weather forecast and preparing for significant winter weather impacts. County officials are coordinating preparedness efforts to ensure the safety of residents. Community safety remains our top priority, and residents are encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions ahead of the storm.

If any county closures, service impacts, or operational changes occur, official updates will be shared through the following channels:

If you experience a power outage, please report it directly to your power provider:

  • City of Shelby, North Carolina — Visit the Outage App or call 704-484-6866

  • City of Kings Mountain — Call 704-730-2120 or 704-730-2125

  • Duke Energy — Report outages via their website or mobile app, text OUT to 57801, or call 800-POWER-ON (800-769-3766)

  • Rutherford Electric — Call 1-800-228-5331 or 704-435-5401

Please do not call 911 for information about power outages. Power outages should be reported directly to your electric provider so emergency lines remain available for life-threatening situations.

Residents are strongly encouraged to sign up for Hyper-Reach emergency alerts through Cleveland County Emergency Management to receive timely weather and safety notifications: bit.ly/cc-weather-alerts

At this time, no shelters are open. Should weather conditions worsen or widespread power outages occur, shelters will be opened and announced through official channels.

If you feel unsafe due to weather conditions or related circumstances, please call 911. Emergency Communications will assess the situation and deploy resources as necessary.
