1 killed in shooting; suspect in custody

CRIME — On Friday, September 18, 2026, at approximately 8:09 pm, officers with the Shelby Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Green Oak Dr., in reference to reports of an individual being shot.
Upon their arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound, lying in a driveway. Officers on scene, along with emergency medical personnel from Cleveland County EMS and Shelby Fire & Rescue, attempted lifesaving measures.
Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old, Jamarius Joshua Woods, of Shelby.
Shortly after the shooting, Shelby Police Department Patrol Officers encountered a subject that matched the description of the suspect, walking approximately one-half mile away from the scene. He was taken into custody without incident.
The Shelby Police Department Criminal Investigations Team responded to the scene and began an investigation. As a result of that investigation, the person that was taken into custody was identified as 19-year-old Kobe Flack also of Shelby. He was later charged with First Degree Murder.
This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing public safety threat related to this incident.
